deer with little antlers hat

i had been trying to grow antlers for quite some time to no avail.
i finally had to get out the sticks and strings and make some!

i havent used them in a battle yet or anything. but i might do.

if you want to buy the pattern to make them yourself...
you can do that here:
pattern is 5.50 USD and takes one skein of manos del uruguay wool.
and some feltable off-white double knit for the antlers.
i mean. they are made of bone. of course they are.
ps.
lovely yarrow has asked me to post the lyrics to
*we carry white mice* so here they are:

when lacy wings decompose
i do not know. where do they go?
oh it is a subtle thing.
melting right into the air.

all the edges crisp and fray.
tiny pin eyes sink in a shell.
oh it is a subtle thing.
melting right into the air.

and then we... carry white mice to the prairie
to see them ascend.. and remember... all is lost.
************************************************

it came from a poem i wrote about a little winged
bug dying and then disappearing. and about the
funeral i might have for him. if i had gotten to him in time.
i swear the poem was better! ah! seems once i turn poems into
music they just dont stand up alone anymore. bad bad bad bad bad.
the video is only a demo of half of the song... more to come! ♥

pssst.. if you want to hear it its the second video in my sidebar
the one with all the pink flowers...
i left the audio to the video footage up loud because
all of the bird chirping was real time! ♥

If I could knit, I JUST might have to knit myself some antlers!! Last fall a student of mine felted me an amazing pair of root-systems that I use both for adorning my table, but also to use as antler-like roots for storytelling. They are on my blog somewhere... wish I could remember what post. oh well. I might come back after I find that out! Love the hat- and you look smashing in it with your curly wool vest as well!

You're really lovely! I love everything that you express (knitting, photographs, and the way you decorate your house or the way you dress! It all makes sense and it all feels peacefull and good.)
I'm really inspired by this blog and I "stalk" it all the time!
Love you!

Dear Stephanie, THANK YOU! I was the one who asked YARROW (http://oakmoonstudio.blogspot.com/) for the lyrics to that lovely song, 'cause I couldn't understand everything! Now I'm SO happy that I can sing it! I like the music, I like the words and the story lying behind them!... Thank you once again for being so kind!
Your hat is gorgeous and "unique au monde"!:) Best wishes from Bulgaria!

Ah, how wonderful! I love the little ears in particular. So sweet.

Also, I have to compliment you on the shade of brown you chose for your hair. Having seen it now in action against many different colors and textures, I have to say it suits you beautifully, bringing out the paleness of your skin and the roses in your cheeks at the same time.

Those are lovely, snowflake!

My hubby wanted me to make a hat with hears for myself last year. This may be his lucky year!

Also, very strange, shortly before this post by you I was obsessively looking at deer and fawn pictures. They are the most lovely.

It certainly feels like winter, so bring on the wooly hats and curly wool vests! I MUST learn to knit properly; I've always been a 'free' knitter, not following any pattern, and then the thing turns out rather differently than I imagined it......
Your blog is beguiling, beautiful, a place of serenity and magic...thank you x

Oh my, such a kindred two are we. You never knew when I was little, I had a funeral, small and alone, in our beautiful park under the willow that is no longer there. It was a funeral for a skeletal leaf. It was August like this with blue skies and when I saw this perfect leaf with only the skeletal remains, it was such a realization of how alive it once was. I couldn't stop the little tears running down my cheek. Now I know, of course it is not sad, it gave of itself to the Earth. But, ahh... smallness. Well, anyway, back to present time. Your song is a favorite. I listen now to you and Cocteau Twins whenever I wish to just mellow. I love your music as much as Paul Simonon's (which is an everyday must for me with black coffee.) So, thanks for the beauty you send around the world. Blessings dear faerie finder from Amy

Loved this hat the moment I saw it on Ravelry and much to my surprise it is you who was inspired to design, knit and make available!! I just adore your music - it speaks to my heart in such a way that I cannot describe... perhaps it's the kindred spirit who loves bugs, mice and the fairie world that causes the heart to leap when the soul is stirred? Blessings to you for sharing all that you do!!

Just loving your blog. What an inspiring talented faerie you are! Loving the deer hat. Have learnt to crochet can knit a bit but never followed a patterned. But do love your deer hat.

Love your music too and your lyrics. Amazing. Have been listening to the songs in your sidebar with my two girls. They loved them too! (six and four) I told them that this is inspiration and what makes the world wonderful. And told them it was all there just waiting for them to discover.
